Even the most optimistic Orioles player or fan knows the club’s odds of making the playoffs are an extreme long shot at this point.
“We just have to win six straight and hope all the other teams lose six straight,” Adam Jones said. “I don’t know what the odds of that are. But there are no sad faces in here.

“We just have to win six straight and hope all the other teams lose six straight,” Adam Jones said. “I don’t know what the odds of that are. But there are no sad faces in here.
“Our fans are frustrated that the last week played out the way it has. We haven’t played the best baseball, we haven’t hit. I know they are frustrated, but it’s better than getting your (butts) kicked in June and July and already wishing for football season. It’s good to have expectations and to play competitive baseball to the wire. We are not mathematically eliminated yet.”
Jones was asked about the Orioles offense which has scored five runs or fewer in 20 straight games. They have scored just 11 runs during a five-game losing streak and scored just 30 during the 10-game road trip.
This time, Jones did not say it’s all about tipping your cap to the opponents.
“You have to look at, who did we run into on the mound? Some good starters in Boston and Tampa, but that is no excuse. We didn’t hit,” Jones said. “We were in the batter’s box and we didn’t get the job done.
“The energy is there, but we live this game off results. I don’t think there is a lack of energy. We have still plenty to go in the tank. But when you see the results not there, you want to create assumptions that they are playing a lot of innings and they are tied. We’re just not getting the job done, simple as that.”
