In Baseball America’s “2015 Major League Best Tools” survey, Buck Showalter was voted best manager in the American League by his peers.

Manny Machado was selected as the best defensive AL third baseman, best AL infield arm and second-most exciting AL player. Closer Zach Britton was ranked as the second-best AL reliever, J.J. Hardy was named the third-best defensive AL shortstop, and Jones was ranked as the third-best defensive AL outfielder.

Gerardo Parra was selected as the second-best National League outfield arm before being traded to the Orioles for minor league pitcher Zach Davies.

Several Orioles minor leaguers were cited by Triple-A managers and coaches among the “2015 Best Tools.” Tyler Wilson was chosen as having the best control among International League pitchers, Oliver Drake was named best reliever in the league, and Dariel Alvarez was chosen for having the best outfield arm.

Chris Parmelee is back in Norfolk’s lineup tonight, serving as the designated hitter.

Former Oriole Nelson Cruz leads the majors with 139 hits and is tied for first with 33 home runs. The last player to lead the majors in both categories was Boston’s Jim Rice in 1978. He had 213 hits and 46 home runs in 163 games.

Robinson Canó is batting .372 (16-for-43) with four doubles, a triple, four home runs and 15 RBIs in his last 19 games against right-handers.
