Orioles manager Buck Showalter gave Robert Andino the start at third base over Jake Fox, his two backup options with starter Mark Reynolds taking a seat on the bench.
Andino figures to provide better defense, though his only six career starts at third before tonight came during the 2010 season.
Overall, Andino had appeared in nine games at third before tonight and didn’t commit an error in 11 chances over 58 innings.

Overall, Andino had appeared in nine games at third before tonight and didn’t commit an error in 11 chances over 58 innings.
It figures that the ball found Andino twice in the first inning tonight, from the first two Seattle batters to face Chris Tillman. Ichiro Suzuki grounded out and Chone Figgins popped up.
Justin Smoak gave Andino a break by grounding to shortstop J.J. Hardy, as Tillman retired the side in order on 19 pitches, including 13 for strikes. And he’s breaking 90 mph with his fastball – an important point for radar gun enthusiasts.
Miguel Olivo led off the second for the Mariners and popped up to Andino.
Brooks Robinson wasn’t this busy in the ’70 World Series.
Brian Roberts swung at the first pitch from Felix Hernandez in the bottom of the first and flied to center, making him 1-for-32 during his slump.
Update: Andino batted with the bases loaded and two outs in the second inning, and he grounded to third. Figgins charged the ball and threw out Andino on a close play at first base.
