Arrieta isn’t commanding his fastball, resulting in six runs (five earned) and three walks in three innings. That 4-0 lead is a distant memory.

Luke Scott made a great catch in foul territory to rob Scott Hairston, almost flipping over into the camera well, but his error on Jerry Hairston’s ground ball allowed Will Venable to score. Update: Arrieta was lifted for pinch-hitter Lou Montanez after allowing six runs (five earned) and five hits in three innings, with three walks and no strikeouts. He threw 56 pitches, and his ERA jumped to 5.06.

Down on the farm, Double-A Bowie’s Joel Guzman has homered twice as the Baysox’s game against Harrisburg moves into extra innings. Guzman is batting .272 with 17 homers and 49 RBIs.

I don’t know if the Orioles plan to move him up one level or let him continue to abuse Eastern League pitching. He’s only a phone call away if they really want to be bold.

Bob McCrory tossed two more scoreless innings and still hasn’t allowed a run since joining Bowie from extended spring training.
