Jake Arrieta continued his solid season this afternoon for the Orioles, giving up just two runs over six innings against Tampa Bay. Orioles’ starting pitching continued the roll that has seen the starters work to an ERA of 1.64 over the last six games.
Arrieta seems to crank out six innings and two or three runs allowed each time out. He started today with some overpowering, mid 90s heat early on and later worked in that curve and sharp-breaking slider.

Arrieta seems to crank out six innings and two or three runs allowed each time out. He started today with some overpowering, mid 90s heat early on and later worked in that curve and sharp-breaking slider.
To me, he has picked up where he left off last year when he worked to an ERA of 3.78 over his last eight starts.
Here are some other Arrieta numbers:
* He gave up eight runs in his second start versus Texas. In his other eight starts on the season, Arrieta is now 5-0 with an ERA of 2.81.
* The Orioles are 6-3 in his nine starts and 15-12 in his 27 career starts.
* His ERA is just 2.37 with five earned runs in 19 innings over the last three starts.
* He has allowed two earned runs or less in five of his nine starts and posted a quality start in seven of his nine outings.
He may be overshadowed a bit by Zach Britton’s great start to his rookie campaign, but Arrieta is giving this team some consistently solid performances this year.
By the way, here is a look at some post-game comments from Tampa manager Joe Maddon today from the St. Petersburg Times website.
