With a win today, the Orioles would sweep the Rays in a three-game series in Baltimore for the first time since July 24-26, 2007.
The Orioles are 1-6 in their last seven Mother’s Day games and have lost five straight. The streak began in 2007 when the Orioles blew a 5-0 ninth inning lead in Boston. They also lost 2-0 at Kansas City in 2008 and 6-0 at Minnesota in 2010. They lost 5-3 in 2009 (vs. New York) and 2011 (vs. Tampa Bay).
Four different Orioles have homered on Mother’s Day: Chris Davis (2009), Bill Hall (2006 and 2007), Wilson Betemit (2006) and Nick Johnson (2002). Derrek Lee homered last year on Mother’s Day.
