The Orioles will try to build a new winning streak after last night’s 6-5 loss to the Red Sox, who have won 14 in a row. The Orioles and Twins are three back for the last Wild Card, with the Rangers (1 ½) ahead of them.

Samuel Basallo is out of the lineup again with a sore right shoulder. Chadwick Tromp is catching.

Taylor Ward is leading off and Pete Alonso is batting second again.

Tyler O’Neill is batting cleanup, Coby Mayo is the designated hitter, Christian Encarnacion-Strand is at third base and Jackson Holliday is playing second.

Mayo has hit six of his 13 home runs this season in two-strike counts. He’s slugging .326 with two strikes, well above the major league average of .263.

Kyle Bradish makes his first start since signing a five-year extension. He’s posted a 2.12 ERA in his last five outings.

Bradish faced the Red Sox on April 26 at Camden Yards and allowed three runs in five innings. Willson Contreras hit a two-run homer.

The Orioles have committed 67 errors this season to lead the American League. Only 11 times in major league history has a team made the playoffs after having the most errors in their league: the 2025 Red Sox (116), 2021 Red Sox (108), 2020 Yankees (48), 2015 Pirates (122), 2014  Pirates (109), 1995 Red Sox (120), 1995 Dodgers (130), 1985 Dodgers (166), 1971 Giants (179), 1965 Twins (172) and 1925 Pirates (224).

The Orioles’ 58 unearned runs are the most in the majors, ahead of the Pirates’ 57.

The Red Sox have been a problem for Bradish, who’s 1-6 with a 6.75 ERA and 1.432 WHIP in 10 starts against them. He has a 13.50 ERA and 1.900 WHIP in three starts at Fenway Park, with 15 runs allowed in 10 innings.

Contreras is 2-for-4 with two homers and two walks against Bradish. Jarren Duran is 2-for-11 with a double, home run and five strikeouts.

Right-handers are hitting .180 with a .310 slugging percentage over Bradish’s last 11 starts. They batted .356 with a .508 slugging in his first eight starts.

The Orioles are expected to face three left-handers in the series, but it won’t be Ranger Suárez tonight.

The Red Sox were going to reinstate Suárez from the injured list after he strained his left groin earlier this month, but they’re giving him an extra day. Rookie southpaw Eduardo Rivera gets the ball tonight.

Rivera has made three appearances (two starts) and allowed three runs and five hits in 9 1/3 innings. He’s walked four and struck out nine.

Rivera tossed 3 1/3 scoreless relief innings with one hit on April 22 against the Yankees. He’s started twice this month, blanking the Mets on one hit over 3 2/3 innings in his return.

The bullpen could be busy.

Suárez has a 3.15 ERA in 17 starts after signing a five-year, $130 million deal. He hasn’t pitched since July 5 but was chosen to the All-Star team. Lefty Jake Bennett is listed as Wednesday night’s starter, but that could change.

Alonso might prefer Bennett. He’s 3-for-21 with two doubles, nine walks and seven strikeouts against Suárez.
