Brad Bergesen hasn’t reported to Triple-A Norfolk and won’t make tonight’s scheduled start in Gwinnett. He’s still in Baltimore, waiting to find out whether he’ll be recalled to start Wednesday night in New York.
A team official said a final decision hasn’t been made, but it’s fair to speculate that Bergesen will get the assignment.
The Orioles can recall Bergesen in fewer than 10 days because he’ll be replacing shortstop J.J. Hardy, who will go on the disabled list.

The Orioles can recall Bergesen in fewer than 10 days because he’ll be replacing shortstop J.J. Hardy, who will go on the disabled list.
An MRI today revealed a strained left oblique muscle, and Hardy is projected to miss two to three weeks. That’s good news, considering that the injury could have been more serious and possibly cost him six weeks.
Cesar Izturis and Robert Andino will share time at shortstop in Hardy’s absence.
Hardy was scratched from Thursday’s lineup and left Game 2 of Saturday’s doubleheader after one at-bat. He fouled off a pitch, grimaced and took a called third strike before Andino replaced him.
Meanwhile, the rotation is set up for Chris Tillman to start tomorrow, Bergesen Wednesday and Jake Arrieta Thursday, unless the Orioles make an unexpected change. Zach Britton would pitch Friday night’s series opener in Cleveland.
It’s worth noting that Bergesen won’t use up an option if he doesn’t spend at least 20 days in the minors.
It’s also worth noting that left-hander Troy Patton is starting tonight for the Tides.
