Brad Bergesen is getting hit hard early today by the Rays, who already lead 6-0 in the third.
He has allowed a pair of 400-foot, three-run homers, one to Carlos Pena and one to B.J. Upton. Pena has hit two three-run homers in his last two at bats here in less than 24 hours. Pena’s first-inning three-run homer produced three unearned runs after Miguel Tejada dropped a pop up.

The Rays today are looking for their 4th all-time sweep vs. the O’s and third under Joe Madden. Since August 28, 2007, Tampa is 34-13 vs. the Orioles and they’ve won 13 of their last 20 at Camden Yards.
O’s starters began today 7th in the AL with a 4.04 ERA and 7th in the AL in innings.
It looks like the Orioles are looking at an 0 and 6 homestand.
Update: After Carl Crawford’s booming RBI-double to right in the 4th, Bergesen was removed for Jason Berken. He has allowed seven hits in three innings plus three batters. He gave up four doubles and two homers.
Crawford is 2 for 3 today with a pair of doubles. in this series, he is 6 for 8 with a homer, three doubles and 2 RBI.
Final numbers on Bergy today: 3IP, 7H, 8R, 5ER, 2B, 1K, 2 HR’s.
He threw 73 pitches, 50 for strikes and has a two-start ERA of 11.74.
In those two outings, Bergesen has allowed 15 hits in 37 at bats, for an average of .405. Of the 15 hits he has allowed, 10 are for extra bases with seven doubles and three homers.
