* Did you know Tommy Hunter’s fastball increased by 2 mph from the beginning of the 2013 season until the end of the it? Hunter finished the 2013 season by throwing his fastball at a blazing speed of 98 mph. According to ESPN’s Jared Cross, Hunter’s increase in velocity should help him tremendously in his role as Orioles closer this season.

* Remember when I said Jones shared his comments about Tanaka? I wasn’t kidding, and ESPN’s David Schoenfield says Jones has a right to be sick of the Tanaka hype. In case you missed it, Jones told a Newsday reporter, “Why don’t you ask Tanaka about me? * Ubaldo Jimenez has not had the smoothest of transitions to the Orioles. The right-hander has made three starts in an Orioles uniform and has an era of 7.31. SI.com’s Jon Taylor believes the Orioles need more from their starters, like Jimenez and Bud Norris, in order to remain competitive in the American League East. For more from Taylor, click here.

* The Angels lost talented right-hander Nick Adenhart five years ago in a car accident, the same night Adenhart made his first major league start. While he was never affiliated with the Orioles, Adenhart was a native of Maryland. Darren O’Day and Miguel Gonzalez played with Adenhart in the Angels minor league system. O’Day writes Adenhart’s initials under the brim of his cap, since his passing in 2009. For more on the bond O’Day and Gonzalez had with Adenhart, click here.

* The Orioles dropped four spots in FOXsports.com’s power rankings. The Birds find themselves as the No. 21 team. Jimenez is partially to blame for the drop.

* Finally, you may have noticed something a little different about the postgame celebratory pies that Jones delivers at the end of games. Well, for one, the pies aren’t made of shaving cream anymore. Apparently, the shaving cream pies were burning players’ eyes. The new pies now come from Dangerously Delicious Pies in Canton. The store supplies the Orioles with two pies for every home game.
