The Orioles designated Reimold for assignment on Tuesday after reinstating him from the 60-day disabled list and placed him on waivers Friday afternoon.

Reimold is out of minor league options and must remain on the Blue Jays’ 25-man roster or be designated.

The Orioles designated Reimold for assignment on Tuesday after reinstating him from the 60-day disabled list and placed him on waivers Friday afternoon.

Reimold is out of minor league options and must remain on the Blue Jays’ 25-man roster or be designated.

The Orioles selected Reimold in the second round of the 2005 First-Year Player Draft out of Bowling Green University. He had 10 doubles, three triples, 13 home runs and 45 RBIs in 87 games in 2011, but was limited to 56 games over the next two seasons due to hamstring and neck injuries.

Reimold batted .313 with six doubles, five homers and 10 RBIs in 16 games in 2012 before suffering a herniated disk in his neck, an injury believed to be caused by his tumble into the seats at U.S. Cellular Field in Chicago. He played in 40 games last year before undergoing a corrective procedure to fuse the vertebrae.

While on an injury rehab assignment this year, Reimold batted .315 with three doubles, two homers and nine RBIs in 17 games at Double-A Bowie.

Blue Jays first baseman Edwin Encarnacion left last night’s game with a quadriceps injury and he’s not in today’s lineup, which may have prompted the club to bring in a right-handed bat.

The Blue Jays claimed Steve Pearce two months ago, but he had the right to decline it and re-signed with the Orioles. Reimold, however, is headed to Toronto.

Update: Kevin Gausman is shutting out the Red Sox through four innings, and the Orioles lead 1-0 at Fenway Park.

Gausman has allowed three hits, walked none and struck out six. He fanned Mike Napoli and Stephen Drew to strand runners on second and third in the bottom of the fourth inning.

His last pitch to Napoli was clocked at 100 mph on the stadium radar gun. He’s been hitting 99 mph with regularity.

Gausman retired the first eight batters before Xander Bogaerts blooped a single into right field with two outs in the third.

The Orioles scored off Jake Peavy in the top of the fourth on Nelson Cruz’s leadoff double and Bogaerts’ throwing error. Cruz initially was called out at second, but the Orioles won the challenge.
