Don’t look now, but lefty Zach Britton, last year’s Carolina League Pitcher of the Year, is really starting to pitch well for Double-A Bowie.
Britton is the starter tonight when the Baysox (30-30) open a series at Harrisburg. Britton is now 5-3, 2.96 on the year and leads the Eastern League in groundball ratio at 3.19. He is 7th in the league in ERA.
Over his last five starts, Britton is 3-0, 1.41, allowing just 5 ER over 32 innings.

Over his last five starts, Britton is 3-0, 1.41, allowing just 5 ER over 32 innings.
He also has 60 percent of his wins this year vs. Harrisburg, the Nationals Double-A affiliate. In those outings, he has given up just one run on 13 hits in 18 innings. He has an ERA of 0.50 and WHIP of 0.94 on the season vs. Harrisburg.
Well see if the Baysox score for him tonight. In losing a doubleheader Thursday vs. Binghamton, the Sox produced just one run on seven hits in the two games.
Frederick could wrap up the Carolina League’s first half Northern Division title tonight. That will happen with a Keys win over Salem at home and a Wilmington loss at Winston-Salem. The Keys magic number to clinch is down to two after Thursday’s 4-3 win over Salem.
Frederick is now 37-24 on the year with eight wins over its last nine games. Miguel Abreu had a key two-run triple in last night’s win while Jose Diaz closed it out and is now nine for nine in save chances.
