Michael Gonzalez gave up a run on a hit and walk in the eighth. He also struck out two.

Matt Wieters has singled and twice flied out to the fence.

Derrek Lee is 0-for-2 with a grounder and pop up.

“I got into a lot of deep counts, so I wasn’t too happy with that. Threw a lot of pitches, but like I said, I was happy with when there was runners in scoring position, I made good pitches to get out of that.”

Britton escaped a jam in the fifth after the Yankees put runners on second and third with one out. He struck out Mark Teixeira looking with the count full and retired Andruw Jones.

“I think that was big, especially, I’m sure Buck (Showalter) wanted to get me up going again too, so being able to get out of it, make some pitches to get out of it, was pretty big.

“I wasn’t paying attention to who it was. I was just concerned about making pitches, and it just happened to be Teixiera. I thought we had a good sink, Matty (Wieters) did a good job of mixing it up that last at-bat.”

Has Britton shown the Orioles what he can do?

“Yeah, definitely,” he replied. “Obviously, I think there’s stuff I can improve on, but me personally, I think that’s stuff I can do not just in Triple-A, but in the big leagues. The stuff I need to work on isn’t hindering me from pitching in the big leagues. It’s just about getting experience. I feel like I did what I needed to do coming into camp. Hopefully, I’ll get another start or two and we’ll see what happens.”
