Update: Mark Reynolds singled off Red Sox reliever Andrew Bailey with one out in the top of the ninth inning. Pinch-hitter Jim Thome followed with a ground-rule double to right, with Reynolds forced to stop at third.
That hop would prove costly.
The Red Sox walked Chris Davis intentionally to load the bases for rookie Manny Machado, who bounced into a 3-2 force.
Ryan Flaherty pinch-hit for Robert Andino and struck out looking to end the Orioles’ winning streak at six games.
