It may not seem like much on the surface, but facing hitters is an important part of his progression.

The Orioles still haven’t revealed their starter for Wednesday afternoon’s game against the Tigers at Camden Yards.

It may not seem like much on the surface, but facing hitters is an important part of his progression.

Ubaldo Jimenez will try to build on his May success tonight against the Tigers. Can he do it without angering Torii Hunter?

Just don’t hit the guy.

Hunter is 7-for-18 lifetime against Jimenez, who is searching for his first win at Camden Yards this year.

Jimenez is 0-3 with a 6.75 ERA in three starts at home. He’s also 5-9 with a 5.32 ERA in 16 career starts against the Tigers, allowing 10 earned runs in 13 innings last season.

Miguel Cabrera is 14-for-41 with four doubles, a home run and eight RBIs agaisnt Jimenez, and Austin Jackson is 7-for-21 with nine strikeouts.

Left-handers have a career .195 average against Tigers southpaw Drew Smyly, and the Orioles will load their lineup with right-handed hitters. Caleb Joseph figures to get the start behind the plate. Delmon Young most likely will be the designated hitter, with Nelson Cruz in left field and Jonathan Schoop at second base. But what about Steve Pearce?

Smyly’s three career appearances against the Orioles have come in relief. He’s allowed two hits in eight scoreless innings, with two walks and eight strikeouts.

Nelson Cruz and David Lough each have one hit off Smyly. That’s it for the current Orioles on the 25-man roster. Matt Wieters is 1-for-2, but he’s on the disabled list.
