DETROIT – Welington Castillo will be activated from the disabled list and start tonight in the series opener against the Tigers.
Castillo is batting seventh against Tigers left-hander Matt Boyd and catching left-hander Wade Miley for only the second time. He’s currently taking earlier batting practice with a group that also includes Trey Mancini and Ryan Flaherty.
Mancini is in left field tonight, Joey Rickard is in right and Mark Trumbo is the designated hitter.

Orioles catchers lead the majors with a .315 average (45-for-143), including 11 doubles, a triple, five home runs and 17 RBIs.
Opponents are batting .188 (6-for-32) against Miley with runners in scoring position and .067 (1-for-15) with RISP and two outs.

The Orioles released veteran infielder Juan Francisco, according to Baseball America’s transactions page. They signed him to a minor league deal on Feb. 14 and sent him to Twin Lakes Park after he finally obtained his work visa.
Francisco hasn’t played in the majors since appearing in 106 games with the Blue Jays in 2014, hitting 16 home runs but also striking out 116 times in 287 at-bats.
