The Orioles did not get a quality start in this series where O’s starters pitched to an ERA of 4.86, allowing nine runs and 24 hits over 16 2/3 innings.
Boston scored single runs in the second, third and fourth to lead 3-0 before the O’s made it a 3-2 game in the fourth on a Matt Wieters RBI double and Delmon Young RBI single.
Boston added a run in the sixth for a 4-2 edge and the O’s came back again to make it 4-3 in the sixth. Chris Davis led off with a single, moved to third on a Wieters single and scored on a wild pitch.
But the Orioles could not catch up, stranding two runners each in the sixth and eighth and they left seven runners on for the game. The O’s scored just seven runs in the series.
At 1-2 the O’s now have a quick turnaround and will open a three-game series in Detroit Friday at 1:08 p.m. with Miguel Gonzalez facing Anibal Sanchez.
