Chen was charged with four runs and eight hits, and the Orioles’ offense has gone back into hibernation at Rogers Centre.

Blue Jays starter Drew Hutchison has allowed one run in eight innings, a home run by Chris Davis back in the second inning. That’s it.

Chen needed to be perfect tonight and he fell short.

In his two previous starts, both against the Mariners, Chen permitted one run over 15 1/3 innings with two walks and 11 strikeouts.

Former Orioles Nolan Reimold and Danny Valencia had hits in the first inning, the latter producing a run. Jose Bautista hit a two-run homer in the second inning.

All five Seattle runs, including one off reliever T.J. McFarland, have scored with two outs.

Davis has homered in consecutive games for the first time since Aug. 12-13, 2013. His 24 career homers against the Blue Jays are his most against any team.

Chris Tillman will start Friday night against the Cardinals. The next two slots remain TBA.

Update: The Orioles lost to the Blue Jays 5-1.

Hutchison retired 22 in a row before walking Nick Markakis with two outs in the ninth.

The Orioles are 64-49 and their lead in the American League East is down to four games.
