SARASOTA, Fla. – The Orioles scored twice in the sixth inning on an error and passed ball to reduce Boston’s lead to 3-2.
Way to manufacture those runs!
Nick Markakis collected his second hit, a double, took third on an Adam Jones single and came home on an errant pickoff throw. Markakis isn’t running at full speed, and he was cautious breaking back toward second on Jones’ grounder up the middle before taking third.

Wei-Yin Chen met with reporters outside the clubhouse after allowing three runs, on a Nate Spears homer, and six hits in five innings.
No Oriole pitcher had gone more than four innings before today.
“I didn’t know how many innings I would pitch, but I knew my pitch-count limit was 65,” he said through his interpreter.
I had Chen with 75 pitches today.
“They’re a great team and I’m very, very happy to pitch against them,” he said. “Definitely, I felt good today and I feel like I pitched good. I learned something new. You cannot make a mistake here. Once you make one, they’ll hit it very far away.”
Chen said he didn’t begin to tire in the fifth and is “ready for the next game.”
Did his pickoff move surprise the Red Sox?
“I was surprised myself,” he replied.
“It’s my first time to pickoff someone. In Japan, they didn’t pick off a lot. Here, that’s a new experience for me. These are things I’m still learning right now.”
Matt Lindstrom allowed a hit in a scoreless eighth inning here in Sarasota.
Today’s attendance: 7,777. Seriously.
In Fort Myers, the Orioles are trailing the Red Sox, 7-1, in the sixth. Chris Davis and Wilson Betemit have their only hits.
Armando Galarraga was charged with four runs and six hits in four innings. Brad Bergesen allowed three runs and three hits in the fifth.
