Brent Lillibridge lined out to open the third, but he saw seven pitches. Brent Lillibridge lined out to open the third, but he saw seven pitches. Matusz hit Juan Pierre – who never should have worn his lucky bullseye on this trip – Alexei Ramirez grounded out and Alex Rios doubled to left field on Matusz’s fifth pitch. Paul Konerko grounded out on the fifth pitch thrown to him.
Matusz threw Rios a curveball, changeup, curveball, 88 mph fastball and changeup.
Edwin Jackson retired the Orioles on 12 pitches in the bottom of the third, with Brian Roberts striking out to end the inning and slamming his bat and helmet to the ground. Jackson has thrown 38 pitches, and the only baserunner is Felix Pie, who singled with two outs in the second.
Down on the farm, Scott Moore hit a two-run homer for Triple-A Norfolk, and Nolan Reimold is 1-for-2 to raise his average to .240.
Chris Tillman has allowed one hit and struck out three in three scoreless innings against Indianapolis.
