Orioles first baseman Chris Davis won’t play in 2021 after undergoing arthroscopic surgery today in Dallas to repair the labrum in his left hip.

Davis received two at-bats in the first exhibition game and didn’t play again. The Orioles anticipate that he’s going to be full-go for 2022 spring training, the final year of his franchise-record seven-year, $161 million contract.

Richie Martin is on the seven-day minor league injured list after crashing into the center field fence last night at Triple-A Norfolk and fracturing a bone in his left wrist. Outfielder Zach Jarrett was transferred from Double-A Bowie to Norfolk.

Martin has a non-displaced fracture and won’t need surgery. He joins infielder Jahmai Jones and outfielder Yusniel Diaz on the Tides injured list.

This is another setback for Martin, who fractured a bone in his right wrist last July and underwent surgery in January to remove a broken hamate bone in his left hand.

There are no updates on outfielder Heston Kjerstad, who’s working out in Sarasota, Fla. The Orioles aren’t rushing him back after he was diagnosed with myocarditis in 2020.

Reliever Hunter Harvey is pitching in simulated games in Sarasota and Elias said the right-hander’s velocity is improving. Harvey could be ready to come off the 60-day injured list when eligible or shortly afterward.

Meanwhile, the wait is over. John Means is back on the mound tonight, working on seven days’ rest as the Orioles continue their home series against the Rays.

Means is 4-0 with a 1.21 ERA and 0.712 WHIP that lead the American League. He’s allowing 4.7 hits per nine innings, also first in the AL.

The last two opponents haven’t scored on Means, with the Mariners no-hit on May 5. He’s allowed two runs or fewer in 11 of his last 12 starts dating back to September.

Means has issued one walk over his last three starts covering 22 innings.

In five career appearances against the Rays, Means has surrendered 10 earned runs and 22 hits with one walk and 32 strikeouts in 27 2/3 innings.

Pat Valaika is playing second base tonight and Ryan McKenna is in right field with the Rays starting left-hander Ryan Yarbrough.

Cedric Mullins has an 11-game hitting streak, matching the one he built at the start of the season. He’s the only player in the majors with multiple double-digit streaks this season.

Trey Mancini leads the majors with 20 hits with runners in scoring position. His 16 RBIs this month put him in a four-way tie for first.

Yarbrough has made eight appearances, including four starts, and registered a 4.20 ERA and 1.279 WHIP in 40 2/3 innings. He’s walked only eight batters and allowed two home runs.

Yarbrough has faced the Orioles eight times, making three starts, and posted a 3.24 ERA and 1.200 WHIP in 41 2/3 innings. Mancini is 2-for-14. Pedro Severino is 2-for-12.
