Tillman threw 107 pitches over seven scoreless innings to win again for the Orioles. He is 5-1 with an ERA of 2.58 and the Orioles are 7-1 in his eight starts. Darren O’Day pitched the eighth and Zach Britton got the last three outs for his 10th save.

Adam Jones back black.jpgThe O’s stretch their win streak to six games, one shy of a season high. At 22-12, they are a season-best 10 games over .500. They have won 11 of their last 15 games overall and improved to 15-5 at home.

The game was scoreless into the last of the sixth inning. Tillman allowed just four hits through the top of the sixth. Detroit starter Justin Verlander had given up just two singles over the first five innings.

But Jones put a charge into one to center field for the 1-0 lead. It came on Verlander’s first pitch to him and was Jones’ fourth home run. Jones hit his third homer in the last four games off a 93 mph fastball. He had homered just once in the season’s first 26 games.

It was Jones’ 200th homer of his career. He has hit 197 as an Oriole after hitting three with the Seattle Mariners.

Tillman pitched around a leadoff double by Nick Castellanos in the top of the seventh, getting two strikeouts and a flyout to right. He gave up five hits over the seven frames with two walks and seven strikeouts.

This was the fifth time in the past 10 games an O’s starter went seven innings or more. Over the last 16 games, the O’s rotation has 12 quality starts and an ERA of 3.35. Tillman has recorded five straight quality starts, going 4-0 with an ERA of 1.64 in that span.

In the third game of the series tomorrow night, Mike Wright (1-3, 5.83 ERA) pitches for the Orioles against right-hander Anibal Sanchez (3-3, 5.89 ERA).
