We already knew the Orioles would not win this series against Chicago, after they had lost the first two games of a four-game series.
Now that they are trailing 6-3 in the fifth, they have an uphill battle to even tie this series.
A loss tonight would mean the Orioles will have lost 10 of their last 11 series and split one other, since taking two of three from the Reds June 24-26. The Orioles’ series record on the year is 10-25-2.
Maybe the drama left in this game is will Chicago starter Mark Buerhle give up another run. He allowed three in the last of the third and has gone 17 straight starts allowing three runs or less coming into tonight.
It is the second longest single-season streak in White Sox history, behind Frank Smith’s 18 in 1909.
I was not blogging that night.
I also was not blogging or attending the game 20 years ago tonight when Wilson Alvarez of the White Sox pitched a no-hitter at Memorial Stadium.
Alvarez was making just his second major league start and he walked five with seven strikeouts as the Sox won 7-0 in front of 40,455 on 33rd Street.
