SARASOTA, Fla. – Orioles first baseman Chris Davis was scratched from the lineup today with a left hip flexor strain.
Davis sustained the injury while fielding a throw up the line in Sunday’s game against the Tigers in Sarasota. He batted yesterday against Jimmy Yacabonis in a simulated game at the Ed Smith Stadium complex and persistent discomfort lingered into this morning.
The decision was made to replace Davis with Jace Peterson. Davis is considered day-to-day.

“His hip flexor is a little sore from a throw up the line a couple days ago and it grabbed a little bit,” said manager Brandon Hyde. “He finished, he took a ton of swings yesterday and it’s just a little sore, so we’re going to keep him out as a precaution.”
Davis is 1-for-12 with a home run, two walks and seven strikeouts in five games. No immediate return on adjustments made to his offseason and spring training workouts.
“I’ve just been impressed with his work,” Hyde said. “I think he’s going about things the right way. He’s been fully engaged in all of our defensive stuff. He’s been fantastic. He’s the first guy in the cage with Don (Long) and Howie (Clark) in the morning. Yesterday he wanted to take more at-bats off Yacabonis. He got a ton of at-bats that way.
“I think the process of how he’s going about things has been great. I’m really happy about that.”
Hyde could check on Davis Wednesday morning and decide whether to include him on the trip to Port Charlotte. Otherwise, he might prefer to keep Davis back in Sarasota to prevent the condition from worsening.
The Orioles summoned the following players from minor league camp: Pitchers Zach Muckenhirn, Taylor Grover, Lucas Long and Jay Flaa, infielders Preston Palmeiro and Jean Carmona and catcher Daniel Fajardo.
