The Orioles haven’t allowed a run in the last 20 innings and haven’t surrendered an extra-base hit since Andrelton Simmons and Jack Wilson homered and tripled consecutively in the sixth inning Friday night in Atlanta.
Arrieta has struck out nine batters in three starts this year. Among American League pitchers, only Max Scherzer (six) and Yu Darvish (four) have made more starts with nine or more strikeouts.
The Orioles’ next win will be their 40th. The last time they reached 40 wins as early as June 18 was 2005, when they were 40-27 on June 18. They didn’t win their 40th game last year until July 23 (40-57), and it took until August 11 for the Orioles to win their 40th game (40-74) in 2010.
The Orioles are 1-6 on Mondays (0-4 at home, 1-2 on the road), the only day of the week on which they are below .500.
The Orioles are 17-0 when their starters go seven or more innings.
For the Mets:
Kirk Nieuwenhuis CF
Jordany Valdespin 2B
David Wright 3B
Lucas Duda RF
Ike Davis 1B
Scott Hairston LF
Josh Thole C
Omar Quintanilla SS
R.A. Dickey RHP
