Dickerson begins as skipper of the Tides tonight when they start an eight-game homestand vs. Buffalo.
He has managed several seasons previously in the minors with a record of 525-462 (.532). He served as a player-coach of the Orioles Triple-A Rochester affiliate in 1993 and led the Bluefield Orioles to Appalachian League championships in 1996 and 1997.
Dickerson managed the Triple-A Iowa Cubs to a 72-72 record last year in the Pacific Coast League. This was his first season back in the O’s organization after serving as a minor league coach and manager for the Orioles from 1993-97.
He was drafted by the Yankees in the 23rd round in 1987 and played seven season in the minors for the Yankees and Orioles.
The Orioles have not, at this point, hired someone to take over Dickerson’s previous duties and will use several people to take over the assignments he had scheduled over the next few weeks throughout the O’s farm system.
