The O’s, along with fellow sponsors the Orioles Advocates, the Orioles Wives, WJZ-TV, and the Maryland Food Bank will collect non-perishable food items and monetary donations from fans prior to the games this Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
So don’t forget to bring along a donation this weekend and drop it off on your way in. Donations will be accepted from the time gates open until the middle of the second inning.
If you want to get an early jump on your donation, or if you forget when you head to the park this weekend, you can still make a donation through the Virtual Food Drive, which will be open until Monday, June 14. Food purchased through the Virtual Food Drive is bought at wholesale cost, which allows the Maryland Food Bank to obtain even more food for every dollar donated.
If you’re not sure what to bring, the Maryland Food Bank notes that the items most needed at this time are peanut butter, canned chicken, canned tuna, oatmeal, breakfast cereals, and canned fruits and vegetables.
Last year’s Orioles Food Drive generated more than 4,000 pounds of food and $30,000 in cash donations. Food and money collected benefit soup kitchens, food pantries and emergency shelters throughout Maryland.
