And Jordan noted that California pitcher Dixon Anderson fell to the sixth round because he didn’t put up good numbers “and he wants some money.” Jordan said a few of his scouts saw Anderson on good days and the right-hander has a power sinker, but he “has some work to do on his delivery.”

Stephen Strasburg’s fastball hit 99 mph for the Nationals in the second inning of his major league debut against the Pirates. He struck out the side.

That’s good, right?

Kevin Millwood threw 28 pitches in the first inning while allowing two runs and three hits, and walking a batter.

That’s bad, right?

Nick Swisher homered after Derek Jeter led off with a walk. Mark Teixeira and Robinson Cano singled. Jorge Posada struck out looking.

That was the good part.

Update II: Curtis Granderson hit a grand slam in the third inning, the second of his career and the fourth by the Yankees this season. It came on a 2-2 slider from Millwood, who has fallen behind, 6-0.

The Sun is reporting that Bobby Valentine will interview for the Orioles’ managerial position, perhaps within the next few days, according to sources. I’m guessing that will make a lot of fans happy around here.

It would be interesting to observe how his strong personality – and that’s putting it mildly – would mesh with the front office.

Double-A Bowie’s Caleb Joseph has driven in two runs tonight and been charged with his sixth passed ball. Chorye Spoone is shutting out Binghamton over five innings. He’s allowed three hits, walked four and struck out four.

Triple-A Norfolk’s Brandon Erbe allowed five runs (four earned) and four hits in the first inning against Gwinnett. He also hit a batter and threw 27 pitches.

That’s bad, right?
