Last night, New York took a 2-0 lead four batters into the game on its way to a three-run first inning. Today, Derek Jeter led off the game with a single to center and Curtis Granderson followed with a two-run homer to right on a 1-1 pitch.
It is the first homer ever allowed by Arrieta to a Yankee over 18 1/3 innings and is Granderson’s seventh already.
Yankees’ batters have gone 6-for-12 at bat over the two opening innings of this series with two doubles and a homer.
So, the Orioles come to bat in an early hole again today against Freddy Garcia.
Brian Roberts is 10-for-22 in his career against Garcia after a pop out to lead off the bottom of the first. Garcia is 4-7 with a career ERA of 4.46 against Baltimore.
