The Red Sox lost to the Tigers today 4-3 at Comerica Park, opening the door for the Orioles to get back into a second-place tie with a win tonight.
Chris Tillman’s flat ground session went well and manager Buck Showalter is more confident that the right-hander will start Saturday night against the Astros. Tillman had his scheduled start last night pushed back due to some discomfort in his right shoulder.

Dylan Bundy made the start last night and he’s fine today after rolling his right ankle in the third inning. There are no concerns about him making his next start.
Reliever Darren O’Day is “inching forward” in his recovery from a strained right rotator cuff.
“Little by little,” Showalter said.
O’Day is eligible to come off the disabled list on Aug. 27, but Showalter said he wouldn’t characterize himself as being “confident” that it’s going to happen. O’Day is performing range of motion exercises.
“I hope the day comes where there’s a big leap in what he’s feeling,” Showalter said.
On the positive side, the discomfort in O’Day’s shoulder from normal day-to-day activities has subsided. Showalter used shampooing hair and reaching for an item as two examples. You get the picture.
Catcher Matt Wieters could go on the paternity list as early as Saturday or as late as Tuesday. It’s somewhere in that range.
Wieters doesn’t have to stay on the list for the full three days, which I believe differs from the bereavement list.
“Obviously, his priority and our priority is for him to be there for his wife and family,” Showalter said.
The Orioles likely would bring up another catcher – Francisco Pena is on the 40-man roster – though they’ve discussed alternatives. They’ve left enough “wiggle room” to get a player to Baltimore by Saturday, Showalter said.
On this date in 1989, Cal Ripken Jr. played in his 1,208th consecutive game to pass Steve Garvey for the third-longest consecutive-games streak in baseball history. At that point, Ripken trailed only Everett Scott (1,307) and Lou Gehrig (2,130).
