Hinckley allowed two runs in the intrasquad game, which don’t count in the Grapefruit League stats.
“Falling behind (in the count), and he really didn’t have a lot of snap on his breaking ball today,” manager Dave Trembley said. “His breaking ball didn’t have a lot of finish.”
Hinckley is trying to make the club as a situational lefty, but he’ll need to pitch better than what we’ve seen in the early going. Will Ohman hasn’t allowed a run in his first two innings, striking out three. Wilfrido Perez and Alberto Castillo have each tossed two scoreless innings.
Perez breezed through the ninth today and drew praise from Trembley.
“I liked Perez at the end,” he said. “I give him a lot of credit bouncing back from (elbow) surgery. Showed a good breaking ball. Looks like he would be a guy you’d have to look at as a situational lefty.”
