TAMPA, Fla. – I’ll be brief, and not because I’m facing an hour drive back to Sarasota.
The Orioles were held to one hit, Vladimir Guerrero’s double off Mariano Rivera with two outs in the seventh.
If you love a parade, you were in heaven with all the relievers used tonight.
“Some guys threw the ball well, some guys struggled,” manager Buck Showalter said. “We didn’t swing the bats very well. Another day. We’ll see more games, see more people play.”

The Orioles need to see better results from Rick VandenHurk. His ERA’s up to 13.50 and he’s having trouble finding the plate.
“He didn’t have a very good statistical outing,” Showalter said. “The first three base hits were ground balls that found holes. Try to keep that in mind. Certainly the walks weren’t good and the deep counts. That usually happens when you play the Yankees.”
Mark Hendrickson tossed two scoreless innings, lowering his ERA to 1.29.
“Mark had a couple good innings,” Showalter said. “Elevated a couple balls, but made some real good pitches with two strikes to put some guys away. Mark threw the ball well tonight. Statistically, he had a good outing.”
Showalter confirmed that Derrek Lee will take live batting practice tomorrow.
