Ty Wigginton dropped about 15 pounds over the winter, which second baseman Brian Roberts noted during tonight’s O’s Xtra pre-game show.
A smaller Wigginton keeps coming up big.
Wigginton belted his 10th home run tonight, a two-run shot in the second inning that gave the Orioles a 2-0 lead against Twins right-hander Carl Pavano.

MIguel Tejada opened the inning by reaching on an infield hit, diving into first base to make sure he beat Orlando Hudson’s throw. Isn’t that how he got hurt in Oakland?
Brad Bergesen shut down the Twins in the first inning. As I noted earlier today, they had tallied two runs in the first inning in six consecutive games and were 17-4 when scoring first.
Down on the farm, Triple-A Norfolk’s Josh Bell hit a three-run homer off Toledo right-hander Armando Galarraga in the first inning. Justin Turner is 1-for-2 with three RBIs. Corey Patterson is 1-for-2 and is batting .353.
Pasadena native Chorye Spoone has allowed five earned runs (six total) and eight hits in five innings for Double-A Bowie. He’s surrendered two home runs, thrown a wild pitch and committed a balk.
