Triple-A Norfolk beat Lehigh Valley 12-7 improving to 27-12 on the year with its 16th win in 19 games. Danny Valencia hit two homers and leads the club with nine. The Tides scored seven runs in the eighth inning to come from 7-5 behind.

Through 13 games in May, Norfolk leads the International League with a .308 team average, 24 home runs and 90 runs scored (6.9 per game). Travis Ishikawa had an RBI single in the first inning and has now hit safely in 16 of his last 17 games. Jason Pridie left the contest in the fourth with tightness in his groin and will be re-evaluated Wednesday.

Norfolk is now 12-1 in its last 13 home games. The Tides have the second-best record in the IL and lead the South Division by three games over Durham.

Double-A Bowie beat New Britain 8-2 as right-hander Devin Jones, the O’s ninth-round pick in 2011 who had allowed eight earned runs over 9 1/3 in his previous two starts, had one of his best outings of the season. Jones pitched seven innings, allowing two runs on four hits while striking out seven in the win.

“I started turning the ball loose a little bit and just really trusting it and trusting the defense,” Jones said. “The defense played great. They took away a couple hits and that just gave me more confidence to put it in the zone and just try not to walk anybody. My slider was there – I felt like I could put it wherever I wanted and that helped me get out of a couple jams.”

Jones improved to 1-2 with a 5.34 ERA and this was his first Double-A win in his sixth Bowie start. Jason Gurka picked up his third save in his past three outings. Gurka has an ERA of 1.29 on the year and has now pitched 17 1/3 consecutive scoreless outings over his last seven games.

Henry Urrutia and Brandon Waring hit three-run homers for the Baysox.

One of the O’s best young pitching prospects, Eduardo Rodriguez, got the win as Single-A Frederick beat Lynchburg 7-2. The 20-year-old lefty pitched seven shutout innings of five-hit ball. This was the third time in seven starts he went seven innings.

Rodriguez is 4-2 with a 3.35 ERA on the season. In three May starts, he is 3-0 with an ERA of 1.80 and a .208 average against.

Lex Rutledge got the win with two shutout innings of relief as Single-A Delmarva won 7-6 at Lakewood in 12 innings. Rutledge lowered his ERA to 1.35.

Shortstop Adrian Marin, the club’s third-round pick last June, has started to get his bat going. Over his past five games, Marin is 9-for-16 with two doubles and two RBIs, raising his average on the year from .191 to .245. Marin is batting .300 in 11 games in May.
