masn-baseballs-orioles.jpgIt has been a few crazy days for Danny Valencia, who played third base last night in Norfolk – going 2-for-4 – and was called up after the game. He is here now and in today’s starting lineup for the Orioles against Joe Saunders, batting seventh as the DH.

He has had a few days of long travels as he explained a few moments ago.

“Been a rough couple of days,” he said, laughing. “Friday night, we played a 15-inning game at Pawtucket that ended at midnight and then bused back to Norfolk. “Been a rough couple of days,” he said, laughing. “Friday night, we played a 15-inning game at Pawtucket that ended at midnight and then bused back to Norfolk. Got in at like noon, played a game last night until about 11:30. Got called up and drove here last night. Got in about four this morning. I just want to lay down.”

Well, maybe after the game.

Valencia said he has not been told how long he will be an Oriole this time. He was just optioned out July 24 when Francisco Rodriguez was added to the roster.

He is 0-for-22 over his last 10 games with the Orioles. Since going back to Triple-A this most recent time, he went 5-for-27 over seven games.

“I think it is all about consistent playing time to get in a groove,” he said. “Down there, when you play every day, you try to get in a groove. It’s tough, you just have to find a way to get it done. I feel good. Feel like I worked on a couple of things there. Just timing stuff.”

Valencia is batting .200 with four homers and eight RBIs over 24 O’s games on the season. He is batting .234 vs. left-handed pitching.

After his recent travel, he’s tired but ready to try and help the Orioles win this afternoon

“Let’s do it,” he said.
