Garza began to walk off the mound before Maddon reached it, showing up his manager in the process. Maddon took the ball from him, turned and shouted something at his starter.

Down on the farm, Triple-A Norfolk left-hander Troy Patton held Charlotte to one earned run (two total) and five hits over 6 2/3 innings, with two walks and six strikeouts.
Single-A Frederick’s Billy Rowell and Tyler Townsend are each 3-for-4 with a double and two RBIs. Townsend also has a triple.
