Gregg and Ortiz threw punches Friday night, and both dugouts and bullpens emptied, after Gregg pitched inside to Ortiz and then shouted to him as he trotted to first base on a fly ball.
Left-hander Michael Gonzalez has been suspended three games and fined for throwing behind Ortiz. His punishment was slated to begin on Monday, but Gonzalez will also file an appeal.
Orioles manager Buck Showalter has received a one-game suspension and fine for “the intentional actions of Gonzalez during Sunday’s game,” according to MLB.
Orioles reliever Jim Johnson, Red Sox pitcher John Lackey and catcher Jarrod Saltalamacchia were fined, but not suspended. Lackey drilled first baseman Derrek Lee in the thigh Saturday night, so it’s interesting that MLB didn’t suspend him.
