After winning just three of his first 19 starts this year, Guthrie went 8-4, 2.86 over his final 13 starts. He threw 209 1/3 innings after throwing exactly 200 a year ago. He is 11-14, 3.83 on the season.
On the night, Guthrie and game one starter Chris Tillman combined to pitch 15 innings, allowing just one run on five hits.
Nick Markakis hit his 11th homer of the year, a solo shot on an 0-2 pitch from Rick Porcello leading off the 3rd to give the O's a 1-0 lead.
The O's made it 2-0 in the 7th. Robert Andino led off with a single to left and later scored on a Julio Lugo single to left center. The Orioles had 13 hits in the game with 12 singles.
Porcello gave up 12 hits and two runs over 6 1/3 innings to fall to 10-12, 4.92.
The Orioles won the doubleheader opener 10-6 as Adam Jones drove in four runs and Chris Tillman gave up just one run and three hits over seven innings.
