It got tense for the O’s in the top of the 9th when Ramon Castro hit a two-run homer off Alfredo Simon to pull the Sox within a run. But after that, Simon got Brent Lillibridge on a line out and Juan Pierre on a fly out.
The O’s have taken two of the first three in this series. That’s as many losses, two, as Chicago had in its previous 11 games before they arrived in Baltimore. The Orioles are 5-1 since Buck Showalter took over as skipper.
Guthrie has put together a run of five straight quality starts, an O’s 2010 season high. His ERA is 1.78 over those outings.
Four different Orioles drove in runs. Felix Pie hit a solo homer while Nick Markakis added an RBI double, as did Ty Wigginton and Brian Roberts plated a run with an infield single.
