J.J. Hardy is likely headed for the disabled list after leaving tonight’s second game of the doubleheader in the third inning with a strained left oblique muscle.
He missed Thursday’s game with Detroit due to tightness on his left side near his rib cage. He felt good, he said, before the doubleheader.
“Took some swings in the cage and felt like it was gone, it was nothing. First swing in the game and just kind of grabbed on me,” he said.

He missed Thursday’s game with Detroit due to tightness on his left side near his rib cage. He felt good, he said, before the doubleheader.
“Took some swings in the cage and felt like it was gone, it was nothing. First swing in the game and just kind of grabbed on me,” he said.
He batted in the bottom of the second of the nightcap and struck out looking, then exited the game. He said the pain this time was in a little bit of a different spot, more in the back, then the side.
“Could be the same oblique, just maybe a different spot, I don’t know.”
He’s never had this injury before and now is not sure how long he will be out.
“I don’t know. I feel like all I can do is do what the trainer’s say and hope for the best. Hope it’s short, I don’t know what it’s going to be until I get an MRI. If I get one, I don’t even know what the plan is really,” he said.
