Well, you’d be wrong.

I’m guessing that Kansas City’s Zack Greinke takes home the hardware after going 16-8 with a 2.16 ERA and 242 strikeouts in 229 1/3 innings.

Greinke had six complete games, which used to be routine back in the Palmer/McNally/Cuellar/Dobson days. Not so much now. He also tossed three shutouts.

Voters are aware that Greinke didn’t get the win in two starts where he held his opponent without a run. He didn’t win in four starts where he permitted only one run. He posted a 0.55 ERA in five September starts and went 3-0.

In other words, he easily could have been a 20-game winner with just a little support.

I’m going with Greinke over Sabathia, Felix Hernandez and Justin Verlander. I picked Roy Halladay before the season started, and he’ll also receive some votes.

Yesterday, I wrote that I would have chosen Andrew Bailey as the AL’s Rookie of the Year, but I expected Rick Porcello to win it. I should have gone with my instincts.

By the way, the NL’s Cy Young winner will be revealed on Thursday.
