The Orioles will try to end a four-game losing streak tonight, and avoid a four-game sweep in the Bronx, with Shane Baz on the mound for the seventh time with the Orioles.

Baz has registered a 4.50 ERA and 1.500 WHIP in 34 innings. He held the Astros to one run over 5 2/3 innings in his last start.

Baz owns a 6.75 ERA and 1.969 WHIP in six starts against New York, but he’s allowed one run over six innings in two games at Yankee Stadium. The seven walks aren’t good.

Jazz Chisholm Jr. is 5-for-7 with a double and home run against Baz. Aaron Judge is 4-for-10 with two homers. Austin Wells is 3-for-4 with a homer.

The Orioles haven’t been swept in a four-game series against the Yankees since Sept. 11-13, 2020.

The pitching staff’s ERA has grown to 4.76, which ranks 27th in the majors. The 1.48 WHIP is 28th.

The rotation has posted a 4.95 ERA that’s 26th in the majors and a 1.57 WHIP that’s 29th. The Yankees are first with a 2.74 ERA and 1.02 WHIP.

Colton Cowser is in left field tonight and Taylor Ward is on the bench. Dylan Beavers is in right field and Leody Taveras is in center.

Gunnar Henderson returns to the lineup and Adley Rutschman moves up to second, with Beavers batting third. Samuel Basallo is the designated hitter.

Jeremiah Jackson was listed at third base for the first time this season and Blaze Alexander was listed at second, but an updated lineup has Jackson at second and Alexander at third.

Orioles hitters have posted a .624 OPS on the road, the fourth-lowest mark in the majors ahead of the Phillies (.623), Pirates (.622) and Royals (.611). Their .777 OPS at home is ninth highest.

Pete Alonso is slashing .328/.425/.746 (22-for-67) with four doubles, eight home runs, 19 RBIs, 11 walks and 19 runs scored in his last 19 games against the Yankees since July 26, 2022.

Rico Garica tossed a perfect inning yesterday with one strikeout. He’s the only pitcher since 1900 to allow one or fewer hits through his first 16 appearances of the season.

Right-hander Cam Schlittler is the latest challenge for the struggling Orioles. He’s 4-1 with a 1.51 ERA and 0.744 WHIP in seven starts. He’s walked six batters, struck out 49 and surrendered only one home run.

In his last three starts, Schlittler has allowed one earned run in 20 innings. He surrendered one run in 12 1/3 innings against the Orioles in two starts in 2025.

Schlittler has increased his chase rate from 32.2 percent last season to 42.4 percent this year.

Schlittler has held opponents to a .148/.187/.219 (19-for-128) line with his four-seam fastball, two-seam fastball and cutter, compared to .300/.300/.400 (6-for-20) off his curveball and slider.

The Yankees have won 13 of their last 15 games.
