Hendrickson, 40, has been pitching for the independent York Revolution, where he’s 1-0 with a 2.25 ERA in 24 innings. He’s a York resident and prefers staying close to home, which the Orioles can make possible if they choose to sign him.

Hendrickson contacted the Orioles requesting the tryout. He hasn’t pitched in the majors since registering a 5.73 ERA in eight games with the club in 2011.

After taking manager Buck Showalter’s advice and lowering his arm slot, Hendrickson signed a minor league deal with the Orioles in 2013 following a tryout at their January mini-camp at Camden Yards. He went 5-3 with a 3.06 ERA in 40 relief appearances, but the Orioles didn’t purchase his contract.

Hendrickson has further lowered his arm slot to more closely resemble Darren O’Day’s delivery. Showalter stood in the batters box today while Hendrickson threw.

If the Orioles sign Hendrickson, he could be assigned to an affiliate below Norfolk. There may not be a spot available in the Tides bullpen.

The Orioles continue to view Hendrickson as a potential pitching coach in their farm system once he decides to retire.

Meanwhile, Kevin Gausman has reported to Double-A Bowie and will throw a bullpen session before starting Game 1 of Friday’s doubleheader against the Rays at Camden Yards. Left-hander Randy Wolf has signed his Triple-A contract and will pitch in relief tonight for the Tides. Outfielder Francisco Peguero officially was outrighted to Norfolk.

Bowie outfielder Dariel Alvarez and Single-A Delmarva pitcher Hunter Harvey were chosen to the All-Star Futures Game, to be held July 13 at Target Field in Minnesota. Harvey, 19, will be the third-youngest player participating in the game.

Bud Norris and Chris Tillman will have their side sessions Wednesday afternoon. Norris will start Game 2 of Friday’s doubleheader if he no longer is bothered by tightness in his right groin. Otherwise, Tillman will make the start.
