Kevin Millwood has blanked the Nationals over the last four innings. Unfortunately, Roger Bernadina’s three-run triple in the first has held up.
Neither team has scored since the opening inning. Millwood has struck out eight through the fifth, with no walks, but he trails, 3-1, and his pitch count’s at 91. One more strikeout, and Millwood will tie his season high.

The Orioles have managed only two hits off Nationals lefty John Lannan, and they came from the first two batters of the game. Lannan has walked two and retired seven in a row.
Update: Lannan left the game in the sixth after Corey Patterson walked, stole second and held on Nick Markakis’ fly ball near the warning track in center. Why do runners keep freezing when Markakis is at the plate? Patterson should be standing on third base right now. He did go there briefly to chat with coach Juan Samuel during the pitching change, but that’s not what I had in mind.
Down in the farm, Triple-A Norfolk’s Branden Erbe allowed five runs and seven hits in two innings against Rochester, and his ERA stands at 6.80. He threw 57 pitches, 39 for strikes.
Brandon Snyder has a two-run double. Rhyne Hughes added an RBI single.
At Double-A Bowie, Chorye Spoone has held New Hampshire to one run and two hits in four innings, with one walk and two strikeouts.
Shortstop Pedro Florimon, placed on the 40-man roster so he couldn’t be claimed in the Rule 5 draft, committed his 13th error today. He’s batting .183.
