David Hernandez is still waiting to hear from the Diamondbacks, who completed their trade with the Orioles today.
He’s been busy fielding calls from reporters and friends.
“It’s kind of a bittersweet reaction, I guess,” Hernandez said. “I’ll be closer to home. That’s for sure. But I’ll miss all the friends and teammates I made along the way. That was my first organization coming into pro ball.

“It’s kind of a bittersweet reaction, I guess,” Hernandez said. “I’ll be closer to home. That’s for sure. But I’ll miss all the friends and teammates I made along the way. That was my first organization coming into pro ball.
“I have nothing but good things to say about the Orioles. They treated me well and gave me a chance. I made my major league debut with them. That’s something I’ll never forget.”
Hernandez, who lives in Elk Grove, Ca., said he never expected to be traded when the season ended. “But lately, the rumors were starting to heat up, that I was a trade chip, I guess,” he said.
“This is a deal that will work out for both sides. The Orioles definitely need power in their lineup.
“I’m kind of mixed emotions right now.”
Hernandez doesn’t know how the Diamondbacks will use him. According to reports, they’re still seeking a closer. They’ve been in dire need of bullpen help, so they’re likely to keep Hernandez in a relief role.
