David Hernandez has made it through five scoreless innings today.

Tug Hulett flied out on Hernandez’s first pitch, but Dusty Brown walked after working the count full. Jacoby Ellsbury singled to left, and both runners advanced on Dustin Pedroia’s fly ball to the warning track in right.

Markakis slammed into the fence after making the grab and seemed to be a little shaken up, but he stayed in the game.

Bullpen coach Alan Dunn visited the mound – he’s filling in for pitching coach Rick…David Hernandez has made it through five scoreless innings today.

Hernandez has thrown 90 pitches, 60 for strikes. He’s allowed four hits, walked two and struck out six. He’s also lowered his ERA to 3.00.

Red Sox outfielder Jeremy Hermida exited the game with right hamstring tightness.

Update: The Orioles scored twice in the fifth to take a 2-0 lead. Garrett Atkins doubled, Ty Wigginton reached on an infield hit and Justin Turner singled on a fly ball that left fielder Mitch Dening misplayed after apparently losing it in the sun.

Cesar Izturis grounded into a force with the bases loaded to break the scoreless tie, and Felix Pie singled into right field to bring home another run.

The Orioles were guilty of some bad baserunning on Turner’s fly ball. Wigginton almost passed Atkins at second base, and Atkins had to stop at third. He should have been halfway and scored easily once the ball dropped.

Hernandez is out of the game after tossing five scoreless innings. Cla Meredith is warming up.
