The Orioles have won the first two games of their series at Tropicana Field and can do no worse than a split. They’re tied with the Blue Jays and Tigers, a half-game behind for the Rangers for the last Wild Card.

Going back to May, the Orioles have won five games in a row against Tampa Bay and they’ve got left-hander Trevor Rogers on the mound this afternoon.

Rogers made a May 18 start at Tropicana Field and allowed seven earned runs and eight total over 3 2/3 innings in a 16-6 loss. He owns a 6.00 career ERA in five starts against Tampa Bay and has allowed 10 earned runs (11 total) in 9 2/3 innings in two starts in St. Petersburg.

Yandy Diaz is 6-for-10 with three doubles against Rogers.

Pete Alonso is the designated hitter today after experiencing some cramping in his calf last night. Coby Mayo gets the start at first base.

Alonso is 15-for-28 in his last seven games, with one double, four home runs, seven RBIs, four walks and seven runs scored.

Jackson Holliday is leading off for the first time this season. The Orioles have used nine leadoff hitters in 2026.

Christian Encarnacion-Strand is the cleanup hitter. Gunnar Henderson is batting third.

In 47 career games against Tampa Bay, Henderson is slashing .332/.380/.610 (62-for-187) with eight doubles, four triples, 12 home runs, 28 RBIs and 34 runs. He’s reached base safely in 16 of 18 career games at Tropicana Field, batting .377 (29-for-77).

The Orioles have hit multiple homers in four consecutive games. They haven’t done it in five since June 6-10, 2024. The Orioles have homered in 13 straight games at Tropicana Field since July 23, 2023, tied for the longest streak in team history (April 12, 2005-April 13, 2006.)

The Orioles snapped the Rays’ nine-game winning streak Friday after ending the Red Sox’s 15-game streak last month. According to the Elias Sports Bureau, it marks the second time in franchise history that the Orioles have stopped multiple streaks of 9 or more games in the same season. It also happened in 1985 with the Twins (10 games) and Blue Jays (nine).

Right-hander Freddy Peralta was acquired in an Aug. 2 trade with the Mets. He’s allowed 10 runs and 15 hits in two starts covering 9 2/3 innings with the Rays. However, he registered a quality start in his most recent outing in Sacramento with three runs in six innings.

Right-handed hitters and left-handers have identical .212 averages against Peralta in his nine-year career. Right-handers have a .668 OPS, and left-handers have a .661 OPS.

Peralta has made two career starts against the Orioles and allowed three runs with 20 strikeouts in 11 innings.

Tyler O’Neill, who had the go-ahead single last night in the 10th inning, is 4-for-16 with a double and seven strikeouts against Peralta. Alonso is 2-for-9 with a double. Cowser is 2-for-3 with a double and home run.
