A series of tests on Jackson Holliday’s right hand this week brought good news.
Holliday said an MRI, CT scan and X-rays came back clean. He expects to be shut down for about a week to let the inflammation subside, and he hopes that a full 20 days on his next rehab assignment won’t be necessary.
“Yeah, everything is good,” he said. “I guess everything was pretty normal. Standard kind of hamate stuff.”
Holliday was recalled from his first rehab assignment after 11 games with Triple-A Norfolk. He worked out at Camden Yards on a minor league off-day and was shut down with lingering soreness in his wrist.
The Orioles assigned him to High-A Frederick, where he went 2-for-8 with a double in two games in a weekend series. He returned to Norfolk on Tuesday, struck out on a foul tip in the first inning and was removed with discomfort in his right hand.
The imaging was scheduled for Wednesday in Baltimore.
Holliday underwent surgery on Feb. 12 in Los Angeles to remove the fractured hook in his hamate bone. He hoped to return to the Orioles by the middle of April.
The list of Orioles on the injured list in 2025 didn’t include Holliday, who appeared in 149 games and batted .242/.314/.375 with 21 doubles, three triples, 17 home runs, 55 RBIs, 56 walks and 140 strikeouts. He was supposed to be the regular second baseman again this season but hasn’t gotten past the surgery.
Jeremiah Jackson has become the everyday second baseman and leads the club with 19 RBIs. He’s second in home runs with five and is batting .295 with an .830 OPS in 23 games.
The infield has undergone major changes, with third baseman Jordan Westburg on the 60-day injured list after receiving a platelet-rich plasma injection in his right elbow in spring training. Ryan Mountcastle, a reserve first baseman and designated hitter, is on the 60-day IL with a fractured left foot.
Dylan Beavers is in right field tonight, as the Orioles begin a three-game series against the Red Sox at Camden Yards. Samuel Basallo is the designated hitter. Leody Taveras remains in center field.
Coby Mayo, who’s hit three-run homers in back-to-back games, is the third baseman.
