Another difficult season for outfielder Vance Honeycutt will include time missed due to another injury.

Honeycutt, the Orioles’ first-round draft pick in 2024 out of the University of North Carolina, is going on High-A Frederick’s seven-day IL with a left oblique strain.

Obliques don’t generally heal in a week. He’ll be out for a while.

Honeycutt was the 22nd-overall selection in 2024 and he’s struggled as a professional, batting .175/.283/.292 in 174 games and striking out 309 times in 636 at-bats.

The 2025 season was spent at High-A Aberdeen, where Honeycutt slashed .171/.284/.275 with 12 doubles, six triples, five home runs, 24 RBIs, 56 walks and 178 strikeouts in 101 games. He offered plus defense again and also stole 32 bases in 39 attempts.

Frederick became the High-A affiliate this year and the change in ballparks didn’t provide a spark. Honeycutt, 23, was batting .180/.287/.346 with eight doubles, nine homers, 30 RBIs, 30 walks and 107 strikeouts over 60 games. He was 28-for-32 in steal attempts.

In his last nine games, Honeycutt was 2-for-29 and struck out 19 times, including five in five at-bats against Jersey Shore. He was 0-for-3 with a walk and three strikeouts in his final game before the injury.

Honeycutt was removed from a game last month with left quadriceps tightness. He went on the IL in April with a thumb injury.

MLB Pipeline ranks Honeycutt as the No. 28 prospect in the organization. He was a fun story in spring training, brought over to the major league side and going 5-for-10 with four home runs that led the team.

The homers came in his first four at-bats. The last one was measured at 471 feet.

“It’s fun to watch, I’ll tell you that,” said manager Craig Albernaz. “That was a great two-strike swing. He smashed that thing. It’s fun to see.”

Any other good times that may be coming to Honeycutt are put on hold.

*The Orioles announced that pitcher Zach Fruit underwent a successful right shoulder arthroscopic debridement procedure with Dr. Keith Meister in Arlington, Texas – the same doctor who’s examining Keegan Akin’s left elbow today.

Fruit, a ninth-round pick in the 2023 draft out of Troy University, hasn’t pitched this year. He made 12 appearances at Double-A Chesapeake in 2025 and posted a 7.01 ERA and 1.763 WHIP in 43 2/3 innings. He impressed in 2024 with a high-velo fastball that touched 101 mph and a 3.03 ERA and 113 strikeouts in 107 innings with Aberdeen.
