SARASOTA, Fla. – The Orioles received good news today on pitching prospect Hunter Harvey.
An X-ray taken on Harvey’s right ankle came back clean. He didn’t sustain a fracture after being hit by a comebacker during a minor league game against the Twins in Fort Myers.
Harvey would have gone two innings for Single-A Frederick, but he was forced to leave the game.
A team official said Harvey will see a doctor Sunday morning as part of a follow-up examination.
Earlier today, director of player development Brian Graham told MASNsports.com’s Steve Melewski that the ball caught Harvey on the outside part of the ankle.
“Just for precautionary measures we took him out of the game,” Graham said. “He walked off and he didn’t want to come out of the game.”
The Orioles reassigned Harvey, their first-round pick in the 2013 First-Year Player Draft, to minor league camp on Monday. He allowed one hit and one unearned run over three innings, with two walks and four strikeouts.
The plan calls for Harvey’s innings to be monitored early in the season to keep him available to the Orioles later this summer. He’s expected to move into the Keys rotation, with the chance to advance rapidly through the system.
